    Chad Abushanab

    Summer 2022

    All through January
    You wished him dead.

And when, at last, he died,
    You stayed beside his bed.

    You waited for the sun
    To parse the window frost,

For light to drift into the room
    And consecrate the loss.

Chad Abushanab’s poetry collection, The Last Visit, won the Donald Justice Prize and was published by Autumn House Press in March 2019. His poems have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the Believer, Ecotone, and the Best New Poets anthology. He is an Assistant Professor of English at Bemidji State University in Minnesota.
