    Spring 2023

    There is no god
save him. All will be effaced
save his face. In my mind’s
private eye: sockets bright with black.

    For him, I efface
each image I’ve hungered for. Condemned
to the public eye, I reach into my own sockets.
The eye never has enough of seeing.

Sarah Ghazal Ali is the author of Theophanies (Alice James Books 2024) and a Stadler Fellow at Bucknell University. She currently serves as editor for Palette Poetry and associate editor for West Branch.
