When the dead unbury themselves,
will they finally throw away
all the chipped saucers
and scrape the contact paper
from the cupboards,
will they awaken
into the ceremonies
their bad knees and small regrets
have become? Like me,
will their final acts of sincerity
include keeping their heads down
at the grocery store, avoiding
conversations with others?
